Nathan S. Szanton, Managing Principal
Nathan founded the company in 1996. Since then he has been responsible for developing 552 apartment units in 23 projects. As manager or principal partner in these projects, Nathan has successfully navigated the process of market research, site acquisition, design, regulatory approvals, financing, construction, and marketing. He has committed himself to finding adaptive reuses for unused or underused historic buildings in Maine and elsewhere, and creating out of them comfortable and affordable rental homes for tenants with diverse incomes. Nathan holds a B.A. from Harvard University and a J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law.

Robert C.S. Monks
Bobby became affiliated with the company in 2002. Since then he has become an active capital partner and has provided a deep understanding of real estate development and financing. Throughout his career, Bobby has founded, lead and grown numerous businesses in the financial services, real estate, technology and communication sectors.
In 2011, he became an owner and Chairman of Spinnaker Trust, a Maine based trust company managing over $1 billion in assets. He currently serves on the boards of T3i, Mediant Communications, Maine Fiber Company. He formerly served on the boards of Maine Today Media, Spinnaker Trust and the Black Point Corporation. Bobby is also a founder and owner of Eagle Point Companies, Dirigo Management Company, Monks O’Neil Development, The Signal Group, Maine Workforce Housing, and Headwater Capital Management. He was previously founder and Director of Atlantic Bank, which he sold in 1998 to People’s Heritage Bank (now TD Bank). Additionally he serves and has served on many non-profit boards including: Maine Center for Creativity, Maine for Obama Steering and Finance Committee, Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Natural Resources Council of Maine, Maine Employers Mutual Insurance Company, Children’s Museum of Maine, Spurwink Foundation, Waynflete School, ProPublica and the Portland Performing Arts Center.
Bobby attended Duke University and holds a B.A. from the University of Southern Maine in Political Science and a Master’s Degree from George Mason University in Conflict Resolution.

Amy M. Cullen, Development Officer and President of Saco Falls Management
Amy joined The Szanton Company in 2006. Her responsibilities include: financial analysis, performing due diligence on potential sites for projects, completing financing applications, and coordinating with lenders, attorneys, architects, contractors and others on all aspects of The Szanton Company's development projects.
Additionally, Amy serves as the president of our sister company, Saco Falls Management. In that role she is intimately involved with the planning, implementation, marketing and operating strategies for a variety of properties. She is responsible for all legal, insurance, administrative, accounting and financial aspects of a portfolio of properties in Maine and New Hampshire, is charged with conducting market analysis and due diligence on all new business opportunities, and has overall responsibility for the successful performance of all management functions regarding the properties under Saco Falls Management.
Prior to joining The Szanton Company, Amy was a Training Program Manager for the Department of Defense in Minneapolis, MN. She holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting from Husson University.
Andy Jackson, Project Manager
Andy joined The Szanton Company in 2014. His responsibilities include finding and researching sites for new projects, preparing financial analysis and evaluating development options. He coordinates with lenders, attorneys, architects, engineers, contractors and others on all aspects of The Szanton Company's development projects from concept to completion.
Prior to joining The Szanton Company, Andy worked as a project manager at a multifamily housing development company in New York City. He holds a B.S. in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Architecture and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

Gretchen B. Roy, Office Manager/ Resident Services Coordinator
Gretchen joined The Szanton Company in 2009. Her responsibilities include: scheduling, office management, marketing of new projects coming on line, and assisting the development team. She is curator of artifacts relating to our properties; she researches the historic photos and designs the displays.
Additionally, Gretchen serves as Resident Services Coordinator for our sister company, Saco Falls Management.
Prior to joining The Szanton Company, Gretchen co-owned a successful interstate transportation business based in Portland, which she founded, developed and grew for over 20 years.

Cyndi Alden, Staff Accountant
As Staff Accountant, Cyndi is responsible for keeping accounts of all transactions, financial reporting and audits for all of the properties managed by Saco Falls Management. She is also the accountant for the management company itself, as well as for The Szanton Company and its related development entities.
Cyndi joined us in June 2013. She holds an M.B.A. from the University of New Hampshire. Prior to joining us, Cyndi served for 11 years as business manager of the First Congregational Church of South Portland, Maine.
