This assisted living facility on Lower Main Street in Sanford was built in 2000 and opened in 2001. It provides packages of meals, personal care, transportation, medications management, and social and recreational services for lower-income seniors who need some assistance but can otherwise live in their own apartment. The entirely new facility contains 35 one-bedroom apartments and generous common areas. Financed primarily with Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, the project was managed by Nathan Szanton for the owner, the Sanford Housing Authority.
Located on Washington Street, Bath, Maine, this was a complete renovation and expansion of a 26-bed boarding home. By adding an 18,000 sq. ft. wing and renovating its original building, the Home went from 26 small rooms with no private bathrooms to 37 apartments—21 one-bedroom and 16 efficiency—all with private bathrooms. The facility also added outdoor walking paths, a community room, an exercise room, and expanded the dining room. Like Mayflower Place (above), the Home provides assisted living for lower-income elders. The renovation and expansion also was managed by Nathan Szanton for the owner, Plant Memorial Home, and was financed primarily by the sale of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.
